Chewing Gum

Gum manufacturers require colouring with moisture retention and extrusion stability. Shelf life of natural colour is absolutely critical because regulations do not require shelf life on packaged chewing gum. This largely limits natural colouring choices to carmine, turmeric, beta-carotene, and caramel colour.

Gum is often a center in either a hard panned gumball or a dragée. This additional coating allows for more vibrant coloring options for chewing gums. Lollipops may contain a gum center, as well.
